Phone Frauds Feign EMSA Association, Attempt to Swindle Tulsans

Oklahoma’s largest ambulance service and the Better Business Bureau of Tulsa have a warning for Tulsa-area residents – don’t believe telemarketing calls you may receive about EMSA’s TotalCare ambulance subscription program. Several Tulsa residents have called EMSA recently to complain about unsolicited phone calls they received. The complainants said callers parading as EMSA representatives promised to enroll them in EMSA’s TotalCare program or renew their memberships if given a credit card number. Another individual reported to EMSA that someone called her and asked her to send a $150 check to a west Tulsa address to renew her TotalCare membership.

Between January 1-March 31 of each year, EMSA conducts a broad TotalCare enrollment campaign. The campaign includes television and radio commercials, newspaper and magazine advertisements and various mailings. EMSA has never solicited over the phone or given anyone else permission to conduct TotalCare telemarketing activities on its behalf.

EMSA’s patient account representatives do call individuals on occasion to discuss outstanding balances and payment options; only persons who’ve recently been transported by EMSA would receive such calls. Any EMSA account representative who calls you should be able to provide you with details of your ambulance trip, including your hospital destination, the date and time of service and a run number.

EMSA and the Better Business Bureau of Tulsa caution you not to give out credit card or bank information over the phone unless you initiated the call or are certain of the identity of the person with whom you are speaking.
