The instructor portion of the ACLS course prepares experienced ACLS providers for the tasks of teaching the principles and skills of advanced cardiac life support. The instructor course is an 8 hour course in one 9 hour day allowing for lunch. Instructor candidates should be knowledgable in ACLS curriculum including text in ACLS provider book. Instructors should also be prepared to give a 15min lecture on any topic in the ACLS book. Completion of a AHA Core Instructor Course is required before enrolling in the Instructor course.

A review of skills and knowledge base learned in Advanced Cardiac Life Support Training. Participants will learn of any AHA updates, review 10 cases, perform a brief megacode in accordance with AHA guidelines, and pass a written exam before being re-certified in ACLS. Designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and managed the first 10 minutes of an adult cardiac arrest. Participants will learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases and will receive certification upon completion of the course and a written exam. This course is appropriate for emergency healthcare professionals and intensive or critical care unit personnel. EMSA offers this in accordance with the AHA guidelines as a two day course. Instruction each day will be 8 hours allowing for a one hour lunch break. It is recommended that participants obtain course materials and prepare for course beforehand.

According to the AHA guidelines, this course prepares the Health Care Provider to assess and maintain an airway and perform CPR when needed. AED training is also included. Partcipants will receive certification upon successful completion of the course and a written exam. This course is designed for physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers. This curriculum is covered in 6 hours with a one hour lunch break (7 hours total).

Cost: Free to OKC and Surrounding Communties Served under EMSA's Citizen CPR Program
(There is a $37 per participant fee for courses requested outside of the Citizen CPR Program)
The Family and Friends CPR Program teaches how to perform CPR in adults, children, or infants and how to help an adult, child, or infant who is choking. (3-4 hours)
EMSA is currently offering one free CPR course per month every third Saturday of the month. Call 297-7096 to find out more.

| Heartsaver CPR w/AED

Heartsaver AED, A Comprehensive Course for the First Responder, is designed to teach CPR, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) to all lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace. It is specifically designed for lay rescuers who are required to obtain a course completion card (a credential) documenting completion of a CPR AED course. This course offered by EMSA is a 4 hour course that will cover CPR, AED for all ages in accordance with AHA guidelines.

| Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals Provider Retraining

This is a one day, 9 hour (one hour lunch break scheduled) course that will provide the instruction and updated material needed to satisfy the curriculum for PEPP Providers needing recertification. This course requires at least three candidates to finalize scheduling of the course and is dependent upon instructor availability.
Materials: You will need to bring your PEPP Provider Book and should refamiliarize yourself with the course material.

| Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals Provider Training

The PEPP course helps prehospital professionals learn and assimilate the fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for assessing and treating ill and injured children. A core knowledge of pediatrics is necessary but because of the small amount of pediatric related calls made, prehospital providers can be nervous about caring for pediatric patients. The PEPP course is especially tailored to the needs of of out -of-hospital personnel who often have to make quick decisions about the care of children in the field. The PEPP course is intended to address the special needs of adult learners who want more training in pediatric care. This is a two day course that covers the ALS portion of PEPP but will certify both BLS and ALS responders and though an ALS curriculum will be taught, BLS providers will benefit from the addtional knowledge in the ALS curriculum.
This two day course will last 9 hours each day allowing for lunch breaks. A book is required for the course and it is strongly recommended that the material be reviewed prior to class time. Books can be purchased at metro area campus bookstores or by visiting www.emsbooks.com.

The PHTLS course is designed to provide the practicing prehosptial care provider with a specific body of knowledge related to the prehospital assessment and care of the trauma patient. This course is taught in accordance with PHTLS guidelines and is a two day 9 hour a day course allowing for lunch breaks. Upon successful completion of the course the participants will be certified PHTLS Providers. It is required that you have a book to attend the class and it is strongly recommended that the course material be reviewed prior to class time. | Traumatic Brain Injury

This is a 4 hour class on the complications associated with traumatic brain injury and the treatments thereof. This is quickly becoming a state requirement for EMS Instructors. The instructor for this course has been teaching in multiple disciplines for a number of years and brings a large amount of experience and knowledge to bear.

The ACLS Anywhere Skills Evaluation Course was developed to meet the requirements to complete the skills evaluation portion of the ACLS Anywhere home study course. EMSA's Skills Evaluation will validate the participants' ability to recognize and manage cardiac arrhythmias, perform CPR (if BLS card is expired), manage an advanced airway (if licensure level requires), and operate the Defibrillator. After we validate your certificate for ACLS Anywhere home study, you will schedule a time to be evaluated taking about two hours. .

This course was developed to meet the requirements to complete the skills evaluation portion of the BLS HCP Anywhere home study course. EMSA's Skills Evaluation will validate the participants' ability to recognize and manage choking, cardiac arrest situations in all ages including airway control and ventilations along with AED operation. After completion of the BLS Anywhere home study course, you will print your certificate and schedule a time to be evaluated taking about two hours.

| BLS Health Care Provider Distance Learning Pack

This package is designed for the HealthCare Provider always on the move. It offers an Online Code that when entered on a specific website allows a self paced, home study of BLS HCP review of AHA updates and information with an exam. Once completed a certificate will be printed. The candidate then makes an appointment with the Training Center to complete the skills testing portion of the renewal process. Once completed with these two steps, a certification card is issued for two additional years.

The Emergency Vehicle Operator Course is offered by EMSA as a course to teach the fundamentals and mechanics of driving an ambulance. As the ambulance is EMSA's only vehicle of operation, we only offer the EVOC for those needing training in driving ambulances. The course will teach the mechanics of the ambulance and the importance of vehicle structure while driving in normal and emergency traffic. There is a testing process both written and driving taken on a driving course. Some details will apply such as parameters to driving records and insurance issues. | NEW-CPR Anywhere

CPR Anywhere is a Brand New approach by the AHA to teach citizens CPR. This is a kit purchased to self learn CPR for Family & Friends at home. This kit includes a DVD, instruction manual, and an inflatable manikin to practice CPR on. This course is not a course with credentials and is designed to teach only the basics of CPR to the layperson. Kits can be purchases at either EMSA offices. These kits may have to ordered and takes 4-5days for delivery. It is recommended that one kit be purchased per 2-3 family learners to avoid cross contamination while practicing CPR on the manikins.
