EMSA collecting H.U.G.S. for donation this winter
TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 27, 2014) – EMSA is collecting new hats, underwear, gloves and socks (H.U.G.S.) from Nov. 1 – 9 for donation to adults, teens and children in need this winter. Convenient collection sites will be located at Tulsa-area Walgreens stores and Bob Hurley auto dealerships.
The medics are requesting the items be new and in all sizes. The items will be distributed to the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless to help those who are homeless in our communities.
“As an EMSA medic, we respond to calls all winter when people haven’t protected themselves from the elements and cold temperatures. Hopefully, H.U.G.S. can give members of our community the clothing and protection they might not have otherwise,” said Joshua Choate, one of the EMSA paramedics organizing the drive.
On Saturday, Nov. 8, EMSA will also hold two “fill the ambulance” collection events at local Walgreens stores:
- From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., EMSA medics will be collecting items at the Walgreens at 3112 S. Harvard St.
- From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., EMSA medics will be posted outside the Walgreens at 11118 S. Memorial Dr. in Bixby.
This is the third annual H.U.G.S. collection drive. It is part of EMSA’s ongoing commitment to the community to increase awareness and support for health and safety issues affecting the region.
